Lavant Phoenix Rises from the Trashes

Newtown Villa Reserves 0 Lavant 6

After an exodus of players from its ranks and occupation of its pitch by Travellers who left it wrecked, Lavant recovered to commence the new season in tact; thanks to the generous support of the local community in defraying the costs of the clean up.

The Chichester side had a dream start when Ryan Seacombe set Stuart Loversidge up to open the scoring on 9 minutes. He netted himself three minutes later but his goal was disallowed. Seacombe hit a cross to the opposite side of the pitch for the on form Mike Bartley to tee up midfielder James Brooks to increase the lead with 23 minutes on the clock. Seacombe was again the supplier for Loversidge to get his second seven minutes from half-time

Seacombe himself got his just reward with a goal half-way through the second half and Brooks completed his hat-trick with efforts in the 76th & 83rd minutes; the latter ending a splendid piece of individual skill by Loversidge.

The visitors keeper, Neil Sanson, was only once called into action with a fine save from Villa’s Danny Hendrie. Villa’s Dominic Negus and Rowan Davies shone for the homeside.

Lavant’s Assistant Manager, David Kent commented “This was a good start but it will take time for the new team to really gel. We hope we don’t drop too many points during this learning curve”.
