Rogate 2 Lavant 0

Lavant suffered from a mid-week hangover as they fell at the hands of league new boys Rogate on a miserable afternoon for the yellows.

The game started poorly and it wasnt until mid-way through the first half that the games first chance was created. Good play from winger Peter Caveney provided James Sandford with the chance to shoot at goal but his effort was snuffed out by the home keeper.

Right on half-time the home side hit Lavant with the sucker punch. A driven corner evaded everyone and the Rogate centre-half nodded in from all but a yard out.

Lavant couldnt get going after the break and almost fell further behind early on.

Then came the games most controversial moment, when Sandford was clearly upended in the box only for the referee to wave away the ensuing protests.

Further chances came and went for the away side with both Dan Baker and Paul Jonesmissing chances when perhaps they should have scored.

A frustrating day was topped off when with barely 5 minutes left on the clock the home side wrapped up victory after a driven cross was headed in with Ashley Court in the Lavant goal helpless.
