Lavant 5 Harting 1

Saturday Lavant welcomed Harting to Raughmere Park for not only another local derby game, but also a top of the table clash between two teams currently in first and second place in the West Sussex Premier League.

Today’s game when it got going proved to be very eventful, but for the first twenty minutes both teams remained organised and each forged opportunities to take the lead, however it remained at stalemate right up to the 25th minute, when Cam Corell clinically finished off a great passing move to give Lavant the lead, 1-0.

Lavant now on the front foot five minutes later were two-nil up as the homeside’s pressure, saw the Harting keeper fail to hold a shot on goal, as Josh Castle was quickest to react and score at close range, 2-0.

The score remained two-nil to Lavant at halftime.

Ten minute after the restart, Cam Corell almost further extents Lavant’s lead, but his long range shot ricochet’s off the visitors bar. Then one minute later Harting counterattacks and scores reducing the deficit, somewhat against the run of play. Game on. 2-1.

With 65 minutes on the clock Harting had a great chance to draw level, but this time the header hits the homeside’s post and away for a goal kick. Straight away Lavant are on the counterattack, only to be abruptly stopped as the referee blows for a serious incident in the centre circle resulting in a Harting player receiving a red card, with the visitors having to finsih the remaining 25 minutes with 10 men.

2 minutes after the re-start and Harting are awarded a penalty, but the spot kick hits the post and Lavant maintain their lead.

1 minute later Kieran Dowell goes on a darting run down the middle of the pitch and picks out Zac Moy on the left flank as Moy cuts inside the box and smashes the ball home, extending Lavant’s lead. 3-1

75 minutes gone and Lavant are making the extra man count as Cam Corell scores his second of the match, beating the outcoming keeper and scoring from a tight angle into the empty goal, 4-1.

With 10 minutes to go Jake O’Bennan headed a fifth for Lavant, 5-1.
