Lavant 1 Holbrook 0

Lavant, top of the Division, entertained Holbrook, second in the Table, at “The Jungle” in what for both teams was a massively important tie. So the disappointment for the homeside was also shattering when Manager, David Parker, discovered that star striker, Stuart Loversidge, had failed a fitness test on the run up to the game. This meant Parker had to reshuffle his deck of players and impose different tactics.

But the match was a classic hard fought battle with good entertaining football. Both teams had well organised defences and there were only two chances in the entire game.

The first fell to Lavant’s Ryan Seacombe, when Mike Bartley fed Dave Knight whose slide rule pass released the division’s leading scorer to outpace defender, Nick O’Carroll and beat ‘keeper, Adam Kollar, with his low drive in the 56thminute turned out to be the winner.

At the other end, Chris Spears found the ball at his feet in the box, but central defender, Jon Wright, threw his body in front of the ball to block the shot.

As Holbrook pressed for an equaliser, Lavant dug in and their back four, Coe, Purgavie (man of the match), Wright and Lyttle were awesome and saw the game out to take the three points and pull clear of their rivals.

David Parker commented:” I was so proud of the team and how they responded to the changes we made. But there’s a long way to go yet.”
