9th May – Lavant vs Faygate

As the final game of the season approached, the runners-up spot in the Premier League was now in Lavant’s hands as they were home to Faygate in the last game of the season. A win would ensure that unless Cowfold could beat West Chiltington by more than thirteen goals, Lavant would be runners up in the league.

Lavant prepared well for the game and had a strong side on paper for the final match, but on the morning of the game Faygate pulled out of the fixture, gifting the three points to Lavant.

West Chiltington then went on to win their final game one-nil against Cowfold and so after a long hard season Lavant claimed the runners-up spot, matching the football clubs highest ever league position, achieve some thirty-eight years previously.
