An early chance for some silverware as Lavant play Lancing,  at Arundel (7.30pm) on Wednesday 31st August.

This annual curtain raiser to the West Sussex Football League season usually pits the Premier Division winners against the Malcolm Simmonds Cup winners.

But as Lancing won both the league title and the Malcolm Simmonds cup last season, it has given Lavant the runners up in the Premier league last season the opportunity to take on Lancing.

Lancing have already started their season following promotion to the Southern Combination Football League Division II, losing two-nil in the opening fixture of the season at home to Bosham, followed by a 6-0 nil home victory over Rottingdean Village in mid week.  This weekend they are away to local side Sidlesham in the league.

So the game on Wednesday evening will be a great test for Lavant prior to the start of their West Sussex league campaign. Lavant having played Bosham in a recent pre-season friendly held their own for long periods of play in that game before eventually losing two-nil.

So its going to be a real test for the first team, but one everyone is looking forward to.
