Pre-season is Underway

PreSeasonatBristolRovers1940s

So far we have held two good pre-season sessions on the village green as we prepare for the challanges of the forcoming season.

It was great to see many of last seasons players back at the club as well as a number of new faces who are training with Lavant for the first time.

There is now only one more training session remaining in July, before we start in August with a mixture of pre-season friendlies and training sessions all listed below.

We are also working hard to try and add a number of extra friendlies to the ones already confirmed. So watch the website for updates.

League Tables

Following the West Sussex League AGM on the 13th July it has now been confirmed that Lavant First team (as we already knew) will be playing in Division 1, but Lavant Reserve team has been promoted to Divsion 2 South. This is great news for the club as it is the highest level both our Saturday teams combined have played for perhaps some 30 seasons or more.

Respective League make-ups are listed below:

Division 1
Barnham Reserves
Barns Green
Cowfold Reserves
East Dean
Faygate Utd
Holbrook
Hunston Reserves
Lavant
Newtown Villa Reserves
Petworth
Southwater
Yapton

Division 2 South
Angmering Reserves
Barnham III
Boxgrove
Fernhurst
Fittleworth
Lavant Reserves
Lodsworth
Predators
Selsey FC A
Stedham
Wittering Utd

This does however mean the stakes have been raised as both leagues will be strong and challenging, with a mixture of very good local teams and a few further a field.

We are therefore very keen to further strength both sides before we start this seasons league campaign in September and we are especially interested in attracting quality local players from around the Chichester, Bognor and local surrounding areas, that want to play regular football.

If you are interested then come along and take part in one of the training sessions.

The philosophy adopted at the club is one of welcoming new players and firstly integrating them into the club as a whole and then secondly inviting them to compete with every other player for a place in either squad

Pre-Season Training

Training for the forthcoming season begins on Wednesday 13th July, starting promptly at 6.30pm on the Village Green.

27th July Wednesday
2nd August Tuesday
10th August Wednesday
16th August Tuesday
24th August Wednesday
30th August Tuesday

Wednesday’s

This seasons training sessions will again focus mainly on fitness and basic balls skills, ensuring that we are first to the ball and there after we Keep It Yellow.

Please Note:

Ensure you bring to every session football boots/trainers, running shoes and plenty of water/fluids.

Training will start promptly on time each week and for anyone late, then individual & team penalties will apply (so we suggest you arrive in plenty of time to have a chat and a kick about prior to starting).

A register will be taken at each session to record attendance for purposes for judging individuals commitment to the training & fitness, plus for the collection of subs (which are £2 per week for training) and for fines.  The £2 helps with costs for training equipment and towards the weekly hire of the all weather pitch from Septmeber which is currently £39 per week.

Pre-Season is about you getting fit!  So the challenge is personal, one of improving week on week.

Training is only once a week, so we rely on each person to also train additionally in between sessions.  Both teams play at a good standard of football which requires players to be very fit.

The location of a training session may also vary, so listen out each week and watch the Website.

Our aim for pre-season is to have fun and get fit.  Best of luck.

Friendly Games:

These are currently being finalized.  But this season they will generally be on every Saturday in August, starting with a home fixture on the 6th August verses St Richard Hospital.

The full schedule will be posted on the website as soon as it is confirmed.

During the Season:

From September training reverts back to one session a week on Wednesday nights and starting the 14th September, training also transfers to Chichester College all weather pitch from 6.30pm to 8pm.

We then remain at the college until the end of March 09 after which we revert back to Lavant.

New Players Welcome:

We currently run two sides on Saturdays playing up to intermediate level in the local West Sussex League (Division 1 and Division 3 South respectfully) and are very keen to strengthen both sides.

So if you are interested in playing for the Club then please come along and take part in one of our pre-season sessions.

If you are unable to attend, but are still interested in joining the club then please contact either David Parker 01243 527313 or Cliff Massey on 01243 530515.

Pre-Pre Season

If anyone is interested, Dave Morris and James Brooks are organising a weekly run to help get the fitness up a bit before pre-season starts.

Last years’ runs were quite funny so if you missed out before, and enjoy a nice bit of countryside jogging, then you should come and join in.

They are going to start with Sundays 4pm at the Village Hall, first one will be this Sunday 3rd July.  As before, the runs will increase in distance and horror each week.  Wags kids and dogs are all welcome.

See you there hopefully

David Morris
