Match Report 6th September

 Cowfold 1 Lavant 0

Saturday saw Lavant travel to Cowfold in what was a hard fought battle but sadly came away with nothing. Confidence was high off the back of last week’s demolition of Wittering and the team was further strengthened by the returning Gabb, Wright and last year’s top scorer Sandford.

It was Cowfold that came out of the blocks the sharper and nearly caught the Lavant defence napping in the opening 30 seconds, a long ball out from their back line with Batten getting underneath the flight, giving the Cowfold forward a free run on goal only to be denied by Sanson.

It wasn’t long until Lavant settled and got about their opposition with neat passing football from back to front. Lavant still had to be cautious, Cowfolds more direct approach was giving them equally as much joy in what clearly two very evenly match sides.

On the half hour mark came the only goal of the game, Lavants Hancock was caught in possession although he was arguably fouled, Cowfold played to the whistle and took full advantage as the Lavant defence remonstrated to slot past the stranded Sanson.

The second half saw Lavant persevere to try and get back on level terms but chances both ends were few and far between. The chance of the game to do so fell to Brooks forcing a superb point blank save from the Cowfold stopper.

Lavant unfortunately finished the game with 10 men as Wright was sent off in the dying embers for a second bookable offence. Lavant will certainly feel hard done by from this result as from the quality football played should have come away with at least a point.

Team: Neil Sanson, Richard Gabb, Matt Lyttle, James Batten, Jon Wright, Aaron Hancock, Mike Neville, James Brooks (c), Dave Knight, Ollie Haggar, Dan Baker. Subs: James Sandford, Alan Sheppard, Matt Grace.

Updated Website Launched

After months of working on developing, up -loading data from the old website and finally testing, today we have gone live and launched the updated website.

We hope everyone associated with Lavant FC will find it much more informative as we have now incorporated other media communcation tools such as twitter and link to the LFC facebook.

Much of the make up of the website remains in a similar format, plus tweets now displayed down the right side of the webpage.  Page tabs are also now on the top and bottom of the webpage.

The quality of the photographs on the new website are significantly enhanced and in the Gallery Sections there are many photos which have never been loaded up onto the old website before because it was a very time consuming task to do at the time.  That has now changed.

We can also now upload videos as well. So Neil Sanson’s ice bucket challange will be loaded shortly. Hopefully

Also try out the search tool.  If you are a player, past or present, enter you name and just watch what information appears.

There are some items still to add, updates to do, for example upload new kit range for the Club Shop, plus some minor changes.  But generally we are there and ready for the start of the new season.

Please let us know what you think.

All of this is down to one person our Webmaster Martin Ayers.  Martin has put in many hours of his own time into upgrading the website and loading up all the information, testing and training the admin team to use the new website.

I hope you will all agree he has made a great job of the upgrade and we now have one of the best websites around in local football.

Match Report 30th August

Lavant 7 Wittering 1

Lavant started their 2014/15 campaign with a comprehensive victory over local rivals Wittering Utd. The home side handed starts to debutants James Batten and Ross Longland in the centre of defence whilst Ollie Haggar returned for a second spell at the club to start up front.

It was a bright start by Lavant, immediately utilising their pace on the flanks to stretch the Wittering defence. Early chances fell to Haggar, forcing a smart save from the unorthodox Roser in the visitor’s goal and Hancock also firing wide.

Ten minutes in the deadlock was finally broken, a penetrating run from the busy Haggar resulting in him being clipped in the area, penalty kick, which was confidently dispatched by Brooks.

Minutes after the restart saw the home side further extend their lead with arguably the best move of the game, great combination play between Knight and Brooks resulting in a defence splitting pass from the skipper for Haggar to run through and calmly net his first of the game.

It wasn’t long until Lavant found the net again, this time Hancock beating his man and rifling at Roser who could only manage to push the ball into the side of the net.

The second half saw Alex Barnes enter the fray for Wittering and his presence told immediately finding space hit home past Sanson 2 minutes after the restart.

Lavant rocked at this point and Wittering reinvigorated by their goal could have further closed the defecate had it not been for some outstanding keeping by the inform Sanson. However, Lavant weathered the storm to mount a smart counter attack for Haggar to race clear and net his second.

Haggar was further involved with Lavant’s fifth after being clumsily brought down by Roser allowing Brooks to dispatch his second penalty kick of the game.

Lavant weren’t finished there, another defence splitting pass from the midfield saw Haggar again run clear to round Roser and tap home to complete a well deserved Hattrick.

The rout was eventually rounded off by substitute Neville, hammering home Hancock’s cross to make it seven.

Team: Neil Sanson, Matt Grace, Matt Lyttle, James Batten, Ross Longland, Aaron Hancock, Peter Caveney, James Brooks (c), Dave Knight, Ollie Haggar, Dan Mortimer. Subs: Dan Baker, Mike Neville.

Mike Baxter Secretary of Faygate FC

Mike Baxter Faygate FC

It is with great sadness that the West Sussex Football league has advised that Mike Baxter; Secretary of Faygate United sadly passed away last week on Thursday 3rd July 2014.

Everyone at Lavant would recognise Mike’s friendly face every time we played our away fixture at Faygate and again also when he travelled to Lavant with the Faygate team for our home fixture.

Mike worked tirelessly behind the scenses for his beloved club Faygate FC and on match days he would be sorting out the changing rooms, marking the pitch, running the line during the game and manning the club bar after the game.

He even once very kindly lent Lavant an away old kit one season for a price, when David Kent turned up with the home kit instead of the away kit, which would have caused a major problem, as both sides play in yellow.

Mike’s funeral will be held on the 17th July at 2:15 pm at Surrey & Sussex Crematorium, Balcombe Road, Crawley, West Sussex, RH10 3NQ.

Lavant’s Pre-Season Kicks Off

Lavant FC is about to kick-off their pre-season schedule in preparation for the new season starting on the 6th September.

West Sussex League (Premier Division and Division 4 South respectfully) as well as a new Sunday Side playing in Division 2 of the Chichester & West Sussex Sunday League and we are looking for new players to strengthen all three sides.
