Cowfold 1 Lavant 0
Saturday saw Lavant travel to Cowfold in what was a hard fought battle but sadly came away with nothing. Confidence was high off the back of last week’s demolition of Wittering and the team was further strengthened by the returning Gabb, Wright and last year’s top scorer Sandford.
It was Cowfold that came out of the blocks the sharper and nearly caught the Lavant defence napping in the opening 30 seconds, a long ball out from their back line with Batten getting underneath the flight, giving the Cowfold forward a free run on goal only to be denied by Sanson.
It wasn’t long until Lavant settled and got about their opposition with neat passing football from back to front. Lavant still had to be cautious, Cowfolds more direct approach was giving them equally as much joy in what clearly two very evenly match sides.
On the half hour mark came the only goal of the game, Lavants Hancock was caught in possession although he was arguably fouled, Cowfold played to the whistle and took full advantage as the Lavant defence remonstrated to slot past the stranded Sanson.
The second half saw Lavant persevere to try and get back on level terms but chances both ends were few and far between. The chance of the game to do so fell to Brooks forcing a superb point blank save from the Cowfold stopper.
Lavant unfortunately finished the game with 10 men as Wright was sent off in the dying embers for a second bookable offence. Lavant will certainly feel hard done by from this result as from the quality football played should have come away with at least a point.
